What does it really take to build a homestead that can help support your family?
Mary chats with Caitlin from Happy Humblestead in Tennessee about starting small, making money from a homestead, and building a life that works for your family.
Caitlin shares how she and her family started their Virginia homestead with just $100 and a dream. From rabbits, quail, canning and sourdough to renting homesteading equipment, their small homestead eventually helped pay the mortgage and even helped launch her husband's business.
They also talk about cottage food laws, learning kitchen skills, raising livestock, processing animals, and the emotional highs and lows that come with homesteading.
One thing becomes clear: homesteading is not always the pretty picture we see on social media. There are successes, failures, hard decisions and plenty of lessons along the way.
Most importantly, Caitlin and Mary talk about why starting small, supporting each other and being honest about the hard parts can make all the difference.
