Story Transcript:

Cs: V podzimním oparu, když se barevné listí lesklo v odlescích tlumeného slunce, se orphanatum Opatrov schovávalo pod stíny starých stromů.
En: In the autumn fog, when the colorful leaves glistened in the reflections of the muted sun, the orphanage Opatrov lay hidden under the shadows of ancient trees.

Cs: Jakub, malý hoch s očima plnýma fantazie, pospíchal po chodbě.
En: Jakub, a small boy with eyes full of imagination, hurried down the hallway.

Cs: Nespěchal k jídlu ani ke hře, ale k tajnému koutu pod schodištěm, kde měl všechny své poklady.
En: He wasn't rushing to eat or play, but to a secret corner under the staircase where he kept all his treasures.

Cs: Jakub měl plán.
En: Jakub had a plan.

Cs: Blížil se Halloween a i když se v orphanatu přísně hlídalo zdraví kvůli virovému propuknutí, chtěl přinést trochu radosti.
En: Halloween was approaching, and even though the orphanage was strictly monitoring health due to a viral outbreak, he wanted to bring some joy.

Cs: Bohužel, Ludmila, jedna z vychovatelek, měla plné ruce práce s péčí o nemocné děti.
En: Unfortunately, Ludmila, one of the caregivers, had her hands full taking care of the sick children.

En: She looked tired but still tried to gift everyone with a smile.

Cs: Jednou, když Jakub dokončoval papírovou strašidelnou masku, potkal Karla.
En: One day, as Jakub was finishing a paper ghost mask, he met Karel.

En: Karel was new and quiet, but he had sharp eyes that noticed everything.

Cs: Jakub k němu přichvátal s nápadem.
En: Jakub approached him with an idea.

Cs: "Pomůžeš mi s výzdobou?"
En: "Will you help me with the decorations?"

Cs: zeptal se nadšeně.
En: he asked enthusiastically.

En: Karel paused to think but then nodded.

Cs: Společně začali sbírat barvité listí a vyřezávat dýně z papíru.
En: Together, they began collecting colorful leaves and carving pumpkins out of paper.

En: Every evening after dinner, they stole a moment to create in the colors of autumn.

Cs: Jakub věřil, že Halloween, byť jen malý, by mohl dětem dodat trochu radosti.
En: Jakub believed that Halloween, even a small one, could bring a bit of joy to the children.

Cs: Museli být opatrní, protože Ludmila nechtěla žádná velká setkání.
En: They had to be careful because Ludmila didn't want any large gatherings.

Cs: Ale Jakubův plán byl tichý, nenápadný, a Karel byl skvělým spojencem.
En: But Jakub's plan was quiet, unobtrusive, and Karel was a great ally.

Cs: Konečně přišel ten den.
En: Finally, the day came.

Cs: Halloween.

En: The children were supposed to be asleep, but it was hard for any of them to sleep when the faint sound of festive music echoed in the evening.

Cs: Jakub dal znamení, a Karel, rozpačitý ale nadšený, pomohl rozvěsit všechny masky a girlandy.
En: Jakub gave a signal, and Karel, awkward but excited, helped hang all the masks and garlands.

En: The children began to gather, their faces lit up with joy.

Cs: Ludmila, která kontrolovala pokoje, vstoupila do haly.
En: Ludmila, who was checking the rooms, entered the hall.

En: At first, she wanted to protest, but when she saw the children laughing and swaying at the improvised Halloween festivity, her face changed.

Cs: "Jakube," oslovila ho jemně, "tohle je nečekané..." Jakub jen pokrčil rameny.
En: "Jakub," she addressed him gently, "this is unexpected..." Jakub just shrugged.

Cs: "Chtěli jsme jen trochu radosti," odpověděl lehce udýchaně.
En: "We just wanted a bit of joy," he replied, slightly breathless.

Cs: Ludmila se mírně usmála a pokývla.
En: Ludmila smiled slightly and nodded.

Cs: "Je to krásné.
En: "It's beautiful.

Cs: Ale příště s větší opatrností.
En: But next time, be more cautious.

Cs: Malé radosti jsou také důležité."
En: Little joys are important too."

En: Jakub finally felt part of something bigger.

Cs: Karel stál tiše vedle něj, konečně zapojený, nebyl už zcela uzavřený do svého světa.
En: Karel stood quietly next to him, finally involved, no longer entirely closed off in his own world.

En: In that old building, among the shadows and laughter, the children found a moment of peaceful refuge, bringing them closer to each other and to those who cared for them.

En: And so, even though it was just a small Halloween, that autumn became unforgettable— a time when friendship was born from paper masks and daring ideas.
