In 1996, Square and Nintendo decided to collaborate and create one of the Super Nintendo's last great games. Super Mario RPG masterfully weaved the action-platforming Mario was known for with Square's incredible JRPG gameplay. The result was one of the more interactive RPGs that broken the static conventions of the genre and introduced a battle system that had much broader appeal than anything Square had done with the iconic Final Fantasy series. For its 30th anniversary, Deucy and I revisit the story of how Super Mario RPG came to be and dive into its faithful remake.
