Today we trace the Victorian supernatural obsession from its first knocks through the séance parlors of London, the spirit photography studios of Boston, and the laboratories of Cambridge scientists who genuinely tried to prove the soul existed.

We will look at the frauds, the believers, the grieving mothers, and the strange, sincere technology a culture invented to keep talking to the people it had lost.

Because the Victorians weren't gullible. They were grieving in the middle of a technological revolution and they used every new tool they had, from the telegraph to the camera, to try to reach the dead.
