In this episode, I dive deep into the fascinating world of cognitive biases, specifically the Halo and Horns Effects.
I share a personal story about how the Halo Effect led me to make some poor hiring decisions in my kitchens. By unconsciously seeking out younger versions of myself, I set unrealistic expectations for my recruits, ultimately leading to their failure.
We'll explore how the Halo Effect, which involves forming overly positive impressions based on a single trait or initial impression, can be a dangerous form of snap judgment. We'll also discuss the detrimental impact this bias can have on both the individual being judged and the one making the judgment.
Furthermore, I'll delve into the equally harmful Horns Effect, where a single negative trait overshadows all other qualities. I also share my secret in approaching these situations when we recognize these biases within ourselves (hint: it involves grace, respect, and self-awareness!)
This episode encourages you fine folks to become more mindful of your own perceptions and judgments, striving for more objective and equitable assessments of others.
