When your husband is a paramedic and you watch lots of birth videos, what else is there to need going into your first unmedicated birth, and a hospital birth at that? Well, while Rebekah’s first labor went quickly and smoothly, the actual delivery did not. A supposed shoulder dystocia and then a quick cutting of the cord and whisking away of her baby would leave her traumatized and completely alone. If that wasn’t enough, she would practically be held hostage at the hospital for the next several days with NICU policies and threats of rare and dangerous diseases her perfectly healthy baby did not have. All of this would feed directly into her postpartum experience (not to mention her deep second degree tear) leaving her anxious, fearful and altogether unwell. How could she go on to have another baby after all of that?
