Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory conditions are the leading cause of premature mortality in Europe, yet efforts to prevent and control NCDs are inadequate.

 Gauden Galea (WHO Regional Office for Europe, Copenhagen, Denmark) and David Stuckler (University of Bocconi, Milan, Italy) talk with Heather Brown (The Lancet Regional Health Europe) about their Health Policy paper introducing quick buys: 25 evidence-based cost-effective interventions that can have measurable public health benefits within 5 years. 

The quick buys provide policymakers with practical ways in which they can accelerate progress towards global health targets and save lives.
