As parents, we want to help. We solve problems, protect our children from discomfort, and do everything we can to help them succeed. But sometimes, the very things we do out of love can unintentionally make it harder for autistic and neurodivergent young adults to develop self-reliance.
In this episode, I share the 5 parenting patterns I've seen over 40 years of raising six neurodivergent children and seven years of coaching autistic young adults and their families. More importantly, I share practical shifts that help build confidence, problem-solving skills, and lasting independence.
You'll learn:
✔️ Why solving problems too quickly can slow growth
✔️ How to shift from rescuing to coaching
✔️ Why discomfort is an important part of building confidence
✔️ How recognizing progress creates motivation
✔️ Why young adults need to build *their* vision for adulthood
If you're a parent, grandparent, caregiver, educator, or professional supporting autistic or neurodivergent young adults, I hope this offers practical tools and encouragement for the journey ahead.
