In this episode of Just That Film Podcast, we’re settling one of horror’s greatest debates: Evil Dead or Evil Dead II?

Sam Raimi’s groundbreaking horror classics changed the genre forever, launching Bruce Campbell’s legendary Ash Williams and introducing audiences to the terrifying Deadites. But which film deserves to be crowned the ultimate Evil Dead experience?

We compare The Evil Dead (1981) and Evil Dead II (1987), discussing everything from the relentless horror of the original to the outrageous blend of comedy, gore, and slapstick that made the sequel a cult phenomenon.

Along the way we examine Bruce Campbell’s iconic performance, Sam Raimi’s inventive direction, the astonishing low-budget filmmaking, Tom Sullivan’s incredible practical effects, Joseph LoDuca’s unforgettable scores, and the lasting influence both films have had on horror cinema.

Will the raw terror and DIY spirit of the original win out, or does Evil Dead II’s bigger budget, wild humour, and unforgettable set pieces make it the superior film?
