On June 18, 2026, the US Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously advanced the bipartisan NO FAKES Act, which would create the first federal intellectual property right in an individual's voice and visual likeness. The right would survive up to 70 years after death, platforms hosting unauthorized AI replicas could face liability of up to $750,000 per work, and a companion measure called the TRAIN Act targets the training data side of the same problem.
