Yesterday (Friday, May 29, 2026) the Detroit Symphony Orchestra led by Music Director Jader Bignamini released its recording of Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” on Pentatone Records.

I caught up with Jader yesterday in Milwaukee and we talked about the remarkable history of the Cantata and how the DSO’s recording was made.

The BPO Is Performing ‘Carmina Burana’ This Weekend

In a bit of serendipity, Buffalo music lovers can see the Buffalo Philharmonic perform the piece at Kleinhans Music Hall Saturday and Sunday (May 30 and 31). You can find more information at bpo.org.

Media Room’s planned coverage of the BPO performance was scuttled after its photographer, Kirsten Anderson, was injured and unable to attend.

Feel better Kirsten!

A live performance of Carmina Burana is a remarkable experience and the BPO program promises to be one to remember.
