The news surrounding Cornell 7 has been deeply triggering for so many survivors of sexual abuse, including myself.
In this vulnerable episode of Thank Goddess, I’m opening up about my own experiences of abuse, the resurfacing of old trauma, and why hearing stories like this can affect us so deeply, even when we’ve spent years doing the work to heal.
For survivors, seeing these stories unfold in the media can bring us right back to the pain we’ve worked so hard to move through. It can leave our nervous systems overwhelmed, bring buried memories and emotions to the surface, and make us question whether we’ll ever truly move on.
I know this feeling all too well.
I share some of my personal healing journey, including the years I’ve spent exploring therapy, embodiment, plant medicine, shamanic womb healing and other practices that have helped me reconnect with myself. I speak honestly about the reality of healing, why it isn't always linear, and how something can still hurt even after you've done so much inner work.
I also reflect on the irony that, after experiencing so much hurt because of men, some of the very things that once caused me pain became part of the path that led me back to myself.
This episode is for survivors who are feeling triggered, overwhelmed, angry, heartbroken or exhausted by what they're seeing in the news. It's also for those who love survivors and want to better understand why these stories can be so difficult to witness, why moving on isn't as simple as putting the past behind us, and how to offer meaningful support.
Most importantly, I want to remind you that you are not back at square one just because an old wound has been reopened. Healing isn't erased by being triggered. You are allowed to have difficult days, to feel what you feel, and to take the time you need.
And to anyone supporting a survivor: believe them. Listen without judgement. Sometimes, simply being believed and feeling safe enough to speak is everything.
If this episode resonates with you, please know that you are not alone. ♡
