Madison Moye, a University of Idaho student and sorority sister of Madison Mogen and Xana Kernodle, recalled seeing Mogen at the Corner Club in Moscow on the night of November 12, 2022, only hours before the murders. Moye said Mogen had spent much of the night laughing and socializing with friends and that nothing about the evening had seemed unusual or threatening. She described it simply as “a normal night in Moscow,” reflecting how safe the college town had felt before the killings. Mogen had later left the bar with Kaylee Goncalves at about 1:30 a.m., stopped at a food truck and returned to the King Road residence shortly before 2 a.m. Moye said that had been the last time she saw Mogen alive.

Moye had known both Mogen and Kernodle through Pi Beta Phi and had occasionally visited the King Road house before it became a crime scene. She said the murders had cast a darkness over the close-knit University of Idaho community and had changed the way she and other students viewed their surroundings. Moye lived behind the King Road residence and said the possibility that the killer might have passed through her yard had crossed her mind and terrified her. She also said she planned to change her habits and carry pepper spray when walking around campus. Her recollection underscored how ordinary the victims’ final evening had appeared before Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves were found stabbed to death inside the house the following day.
