Most of us imagine that moving abroad is going to make us happier. We picture the beautiful European city, the walkable streets, the better work-life balance, the weekend trips, the amazing people. And then we move. And eventually it just becomes normal life.
In this episode I am not giving you a simple yes or no. Because the answer is more nuanced than that. And I think it is one of the most important questions to sit with before you make the move.
Here is what we are covering:
Why we think moving abroad will make us happier and the psychological trap behind it
What moving abroad genuinely changed for me including lifestyle, travel, perspective, and identity
What moving abroad did not fix and the problems that followed me across the Atlantic
The bigger question worth asking: are you unhappy with your location or unhappy with something else?
My honest personal scorecard after almost 7 years abroad
The question you should actually be asking instead of will moving abroad make me happier
A simple 2 list exercise to help you get honest about what you are really expecting the move to change
Because moving abroad does not manufacture happiness. But it can absolutely change the environment in which you build your life. And sometimes that makes all the difference.
