El: Ο ήλιος έλαμπε πάνω από τη Σαντορίνη.
En: The sun was shining over Santorini.
El: Οι λευκοί τοίχοι των σπιτιών έλαμπαν κάτω από το φως.
En: The white walls of the houses glistened under the light.
El: Η Άρτεμις και ο Δημήτριος περπατούσαν στους στενούς δρόμους του χωριού.
En: Artemis and Dimitrios were walking through the narrow streets of the village.
El: Η Άρτεμις ήθελε να βρει μια ήσυχη γωνιά δίπλα στη θάλασσα.
En: Artemis wanted to find a quiet corner by the sea.
El: Ο Δημήτριος, όμως, αναζητούσε περιπέτεια.
En: Dimitrios, however, was in search of adventure.
El: «Κοίτα εκεί, Άρτεμις!
En: "Look there, Artemis!"
El: » είπε ο Δημήτριος, δείχνοντας μπροστά.
En: said Dimitrios, pointing ahead.
El: Υπήρχε πολύς κόσμος και θόρυβος.
En: There were lots of people and noise.
El: Κάτι συναρπαστικό συνέβαινε.
En: Something exciting was happening.
El: «Τι γίνεται εδώ;
En: "What’s happening here?"
El: » ρώτησε η Άρτεμις, αν και ήθελε απλά ησυχία.
En: asked Artemis, even though she just wanted peace.
El: «Είναι φεστιβάλ αγώνων γαϊδουριών!
En: "It's a donkey race festival!"
El: » αναφώνησε ο Δημήτριος γεμάτος ενθουσιασμό.
En: exclaimed Dimitrios full of excitement.
El: «Πρέπει να πάμε!
En: "We have to go!"
El: »Η Άρτεμις δίστασε.
En: Artemis hesitated.
El: Ήθελε να καθίσει, να ακούσει τα κύματα.
En: She wanted to sit and listen to the waves.
El: Αλλά η περιέργεια την τραβούσε.
En: But curiosity pulled her.
El: «Εντάξει, ας ρίξουμε μια ματιά.
En: "Okay, let's take a look."
El: »Μαζεύτηκαν γύρω από τη σκόνη του δρόμου.
En: They gathered around the dusty road.
El: Οι γητευτές γαϊδουριών προετοιμάζαν τα ζώα με χαμόγελα.
En: The donkey handlers were preparing the animals with smiles.
El: Ο Δημήτριος πλησίασε έναν άντρα.
En: Dimitrios approached a man.
El: «Μπορούμε να συμμετάσχουμε;
En: "Can we participate?"
El: »Ο άντρας γέλασε.
En: The man laughed.
El: «Φυσικά, υπάρχει χώρος για περισσότερους!
En: "Of course, there's room for more!"
El: »Ο Δημήτριος κατένευσε στην Άρτεμις.
En: Dimitrios nodded to Artemis.
El: «Τι λες;
En: "What do you say?"
El: »Η Άρτεμις αναστέναξε, αλλά τελικά είπε, «Γιατί όχι;
En: Artemis sighed, but finally said, "Why not?"
El: »Πριν το καταλάβει, στεκόταν στην αρχή της γραμμής, πάνω σε ένα γαϊδουράκι.
En: Before she knew it, she was standing at the start of the line, on a little donkey.

En: The crowd was cheering and her heart was pounding.

En: "I can't believe I'm doing this," she thought.

En: The signal was given and the donkeys started.
El: Η Άρτεμις, με απροσδόκητη ευχέρεια, βρέθηκε στην πρώτη θέση.
En: Artemis, with unexpected ease, found herself in the lead.
