Netflix dropped eight episodes of Love Is Blind UK season three at once, so we turned around the pods in a couple of days. Heads up: full spoilers for episodes one to four throughout.
This season plays differently, and it took us most of the episode to work out why. Nobody throws a drink. Nobody is a straightforward villain. We kept waiting for the usual reality TV detonation and it never arrived. Neil's theory is that the UK version is still on its season three arc, the same place the American show sat before it learned to milk the format. Shelly thinks the British cast is simply calmer. Either way the drama has to come from people genuinely being difficult, rather than from producers pushing them into it.
Then we go couple by couple. Sophie and Taylor got engaged in episode two and never looked at anyone else, which makes them the boring golden couple and probably the safest bet on the board. Jordan and Yasmin are the other contender, and Neil has one reservation about a first serious relationship running straight into an engagement. Cuba and Ryan have almost too much in common, both deep in the spiritual scene, and we cannot decide whether that is compatibility or a warning sign. Francesca and Joseph got where they are through Chevanique, who fought for him after he had already chosen.
The money argument is where we split. Ciara is direct about what she expects a partner to spend. Ajay was equally direct that he has left a finance job and does not yet know what is next. Shelly hears two people being honest with each other and choosing to stay anyway. Neil keeps returning to what she offers in return, and does not accept being pretty as the answer. We do not resolve it, and we are not pretending to.
Most of the back half is Jack. Neil describes him as weaponized ADHD, then immediately turns it on himself, because he has it too and does not think it excuses any of this. Jack decided Ciara was his number one, heard what he wanted to hear when she was careful not to say it, then wrote a poem for Faye the same night. At one point he called her Fran, and neither of us is confident he knows there is a Francesca on the show.
And then he showed up to meet his fiancee in an untucked polo shirt.
