Not complicated. unconventional.
Hardshore Distilling Company is a different kind of distillery. We don't obsess about what the other guys and girls are doing. We obsess about what they're not doing. We are only interested in making spirits that have a purpose on the bar shelf, not just imitating the greats who have already earned their place there. We are constantly trying to coax new tastes and textures out of anything we can fit in our stills (and with a 1,200-liter Arnold Holstein still, we can fit a lot). We almost never rule anything out before we've attempted to distill it at least once. Sometimes once is clearly enough. Other times, a change in technique with the same botanical can produce a very different result.
In 2016, after nearly four years of tinkering and tweaking, we released our flagship product, Hardshore Original Gin. This lovely gin is thoughtfully crafted from our family-grown grain and is brimming with fresh rosemary and green mint. A very common refrain we hear from people goes something along the lines of "You know? I don't really even like gin....but I LOVE Hardshore!" That's what keeps us going. We want to be responsible for people reviewing their previous objections to gin.
Since then, we've carefully and thoughtfully added to our spirits portfolio with Shorebird Bourbon and now Star & Pine Maine Vodka, but our guiding principles for the gin apply to the rest of our products - do the work and let nature drive. We also strive to do our part to conserve the natural wonders of Maine that make Hardshore so unique. Our water comes straight to us from Sebago Lake, and is so clean that we don't require the use of reverse osmosis to purify our water. This helps us use up to 30% less water than other facilities of a similar size. We also support local conservation groups dedicated to preserving New England's natural water sources with the sale of ever bottle of our Star & Pine Maine Vodka. Shorebird bourbon
90 - 106 proof (45% - 53% ABV)
It wasn't too long after we bottled our first batch of gin that our minds wandered beyond the category toward America's native spirit - bourbon. We imagined what our perfect conception of bourbon would be like and it became immediately clear - there is no perfect bourbon. Sometimes a punk-rock, flavor-forward bourbon is the call (Small Batch). At other times, a soft-spoken, exceptionally smooth whiskey is the trick (Single Barrel). Still others, a smokey, brooding and full-bodied whiskey puts the perfect cap on the night (Master Distiller's Series). We couldn't be more proud of these bourbons, all made right here at Hardshore using grains grown on our founder's 5th generation family farm. This is small bourbon at it absolute best.
