What happens when history, religion, spirituality, and the paranormal collide?
JJRose777 returns to The Wandering Road for Part II of our conversation, and this time we dive deeper into the complicated relationship between spiritual belief, the supernatural, and some of the darkest chapters of religious history.
We explore exorcisms, spiritual cleansings, and the importance of respecting the spirit world when attempting to interact with something we may not fully understand. JJ also discusses the power of belief and the role faith, spirituality, and mindset can play in how people understand healing.
From there, we travel back to 1692 and the Salem Witch Trials.
JJ describes Salem as a “perfect storm of awfulness,” where religious beliefs, fear, suspicion, social tensions, and accusations collided with devastating consequences. We discuss the harsh realities of Puritan life, the religious worldview of colonial New England, and why understanding that environment is essential to understanding how the witch trials happened.
For JJ, however, Salem is more than history. She also shares her personal connection to an ancestor involved in the Salem Witch Trials and explains why she remains proud of the courage her ancestor demonstrated during one of the most infamous periods in early American history.
Our conversation also ventures into the history of the Bible, including why the Protestant Bible commonly contains 66 books and the complicated history of the biblical canon. We also ask where the line exists between faith and a cult, and why open dialogue is so important when discussing belief systems different from our own.
From exorcisms and spiritual cleansing to Puritan New England, biblical history, the spirit world, and the Salem Witch Trials, this conversation explores what happens when belief becomes powerful enough to shape not only individual experiences, but history itself.
Is belief simply how we interpret the unknown, or can what we believe actually influence what we experience?
