God Soaked Adoption & Redemption Story
For more than two decades, Stephen and his biological daughter, Celeste, lived in two different countries with an incomplete understanding of why they had never been part of each other’s lives.
Celeste was adopted as a baby by a loving family in Canada. While she always knew she was adopted and remained connected to her birth mother, she grew up believing her biological father had not completed the paperwork that would have allowed him to know her.
Meanwhile, Stephen had been told circumstances that led him to believe stepping away was the right thing to do. What neither of them fully understood was how much the other wanted a relationship.
In this deeply personal conversation, Stephen and Celeste share the misunderstandings that kept them apart, the letter Celeste wrote to him in her journal at 15 years old, the fears she had to overcome before reaching out, and what it felt like to finally hug each other for the first time.
Their story also touches on adoption, infertility, addiction and recovery, forgiveness, fear of rejection, God’s timing, and the decision to stop dwelling on the years that were lost and begin creating new memories together.
Stephen and Celeste wanted to share their story so others could see God’s hand in every part of it. Even when they could not see what He was doing, He was still carefully putting the pieces together.
Sometimes something incredibly beautiful is waiting on the other side of doing it afraid.
