In episode 3 of s0 wet s0 dry’s manosphere series, Fiji is wet, dry, and fxcking confused about the feminist stare and the manosphere’s gender role freakshow.Picking up where we left off last episode, Fiji dissects Myron Gaines' claims against feminists in his book Why Women Deserve Less, which focuses on Beyoncé’s song Irreplaceable and her alleged hypergamy and feminist hypocrisy for taking Jay-Z back after he cheated. After covering the true origins of the song and the blatant misinformation that Myron spouts, Fiji explore how women’s notice and a record of their noticing was prohibited throughout history under patriarchy. Fiji uses Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own to establish the necessity for women to have their own room and money to be able to create. Social media became a collective “room of our own” and a tool of resistance for women to safely (sometimes) and freely record their noticings, leading to an overwhelming societal consciousness of the “Feminist Stare,” a term Fiji coins and explains in the video. She also cover the intersection of race, considering many of the manosphere men are men of color who have some valid claims against white feminists that are frequently overlooked. I use Angela Davis’s Women, Race, and Class, Sinners, and Get Out to explain some of the tension between men of color and white or light-skinned women surrounding hypergamy and gender roles.The manosphere’s gender role freak show is protest theatre with men like Myron, Walter, Andrew Wilson, or Brian Atlas as the ringleaders directing your attention to how men are disabled and oppressed under the feminist stare while feminists push anti-male propaganda. By presenting the show as social experiment, they attempt to prove their misogynistic points about male and female nature, but in reality, they are hunting women with feminist values to label them as freaks and discourage women from holding any feminist views. This witch hunt mimics the McCarthy Era hunt for communists and Myron even makes that reference himself. The goal is to market the sentiment that women with feminist values are not worthy of love. It also has an underlying sexual tone that objectifies the women and aims to put them in their place by dominating them with “logic.”Fiji reacts to a clip of Fresh and Fit about Undercover Feminists, The Whatever Podcast about Conservative Feminists, and SOSCast about Women Living Life on Easy Mode to illustrate the misogyny, dated gender roles, and misplaced blame in these manosphere influencers’ claims.
