Down on the South Carolina coast there are islands, and a lot of them. Many of them were rice plantations where the Gullah Geechee culture was born and floruished. While the enslaved were working, their captors took off to another island to avoid the mosquitos, Pawleys Island.
Here they spent their summers and to this day this island is a summer haven for people to escape the busy city life. And since then their have been tales of ghosts who walk those shores.
Most notably the Gray Man. There are a few origin stories for this apparition, most revolve around a young man who came to see his girlfriend, and drowned in a marsh. He is now said to warn travelers of dangerous weather headed to the island.
