🪐 STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE
This movie is as slow a burn as racing across the galaxy at impulse power. An exciting initial thrust quickly settled into before scene after scene of spectacle equivalent to that of a galactic lazy river as the special effects team really really really shows off their work. Half the run time is people staring at massive objects that the enterprise is floating past, all in service to one great mystery: who, or what, or why is V’Ger, the unfathomably gigantic space entity on a collision course with Earth. It turns out that V’Ger is in fact Voyager, a deep-space probe launched by NASA to explore the universe before being swallowed by a black hole and becoming conscious after receiving an upgrade from an alien race of living machines before returning to Earth to complete its mission by joining with its creator. Which turns into a freaky weird Freudian pleasing of its Father sexually thing where the deep space probe now wants to be probed by its creator including penetrating its enormous space butthole, but we’ll get into that, and more, sex pun intended, on this first episode of Star Trek the film series RANKED.
