Ever had that moment at your desk where you imagine marching into your boss’s office, handing in your notice, and walking out like it’s the closing scene of a film? I’ve had it more times than I can count, and I’ve realised something uncomfortable: that fantasy can be the very thing that keeps us stuck.
I’m sharing a simple framework I’ve been using while rebuilding the foundations of House of Voltage, especially after a messy, overwhelmed “back to reality” season. Think of your life as a building with four doors. The front door is the default path where you stay as you are because it feels responsible. The fire exit is the burn-it-all-down escape route. Door three is the sneaky one: the option everyone points you towards, the sensible “should” that looks like change but often isn’t.
Then we go looking for door four, the choice that is truly yours, the one you uncover, design, and earn through curiosity and small brave moves. I talk through my own real-life examples: maternity leave decisions, starting a leather accessories brand, and why none of that was wasted even when it didn’t become a big success. I also get honest about expat life in Italy, the story I told myself about limitations, and how one local women’s networking event reminded me that opportunities can be closer than you think.
If you feel stuck in your career, your business, or your identity, press play and map your own four doors. Then take one tiny step towards Door No.4 and tell me what you find...
