We're kicking off a month of Australian cinema with 2009's Daybreakers!

We pivoted on our first film of the month to talk about the great Sam Neill in Daybreakers, who just passed away in July. In the dystopian future of 2019, vampires are the dominant species, and the Bromley Marks Corporation, run by Charles Bromley (Sam Neill), controls the blood supply and faces a dwindling human population and looming blood shortage. Ethan Hawke plays Edward Dalton, a hematologist researching a blood substitute to keep the populace from starving and turning into mutated "subsiders", feral and animalistic vampires. He joins forces with a leader of the human resistance, Audrey, and cured vampire, "Elvis," played by Willem Dafoe. They have to discover how Elvis was cured and try to help the world before it's too late.
