International jurists Richard Falk and Hilal Elver discuss the work of the International Gaza Tribunal, a people’s tribunal examining Israeli war crimes in Gaza. A response by members of civil society to the failure of states and the United Nations to hold Israel accountable for crimes committed in its war on Gaza, the tribunal collected testimony from human rights experts, former UN officials and ordinary Palestinians about the different dimensions of genocide in Gaza. Richard Falk was president of the tribunal. He taught international law at Princeton University for over 40 years. From 2008-2014 he was U.N. Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the occupied Palestinian Territories. Hilal Elver was a member of the tribunal’s steering committee. A research professor at the University of California-Santa Barbara, she served as U.N .Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food from 2014-2020 and testified about the deliberate starvation of Gazans.
