The meat and taters of this episode starts here, about our responsibility of having a public profile 5:30
This episode is only for people who want to be active participants in the online ecosystem. I disagree with the idea that you have a responsibility to post about everything happening, and here is why: 8:00
1) You're a person, not a journalist. (Journalists are people too, but it's their whole job to respond to everything) 9:10
2) There are simply too many horrors to post about all of them. 9:51
3) I do think we have a responsibility to lead with our values. That doesn't mean saying it constantly, or every day. 10:33
4) The rise of the idea that you have a responsibility to respond to every crisis has given rise to the tidal wave of performative allyship. This creates ENORMOUS pressure that is almost impossible to satisfy, so we just don't post at all. Who benefits from this?? 11:38
5) Just because someone doesn't say something about an issue, it doesn't mean they don't care and aren't participating in beneficial ways 13:00
Little story about one of my alumni who felt so much pressure she couldn't share her life 14:40
Shoutout to Maestro for leading with her example and sharing her values and always sharing her joy 16:00
