Healthcare faces a big problem – health inequities. Life expectancy rates drastically differ from state to state, maternal mortality rates are increasing; these are just a few challenges impacting healthcare. There is a lot of talk about health equity, but we need action. Today, we explore how to place health equity at the center of innovation and who is responsible for doing so.
First, Rene Quashie shows us how health inequities affect people across the United States. Host Michael Crawford then speaks with Dr. Aletha Maybank about the history of efforts to address health equity and essential considerations when undertaking health equity initiatives. Michael then talks to Stacey Stewart about how the March of Dimes is moving beyond discussion to address maternal and infant health inequities. Lastly, Michael speaks with Bruce Siegel about implementing the right policy solutions that will not further exacerbate health disparities.
