Was Borley Rectory really the most haunted house in England, or was something far more human going on behind its terrifying reputation? 👻
In Part Two of our deep dive into the infamous Borley Rectory haunting, Nikki and Cheryl are joined by special guest Robin Ince to explore the chilling reports, strange discoveries and controversial investigations that helped turn this Essex mansion into one of the most notorious haunted houses in paranormal history.
From unexplained voices and poltergeist activity to a mysterious human skull hidden in a cupboard, the stories surrounding Borley Rectory only get stranger. But as the hauntings escalate, questions begin to emerge about whether everything was quite as supernatural as it seemed.
When Reverend Guy Smith and his wife begin experiencing increasingly disturbing phenomena, they turn to paranormal investigators for help. Enter Harry Price, the famous ghost hunter whose investigations would make Borley Rectory internationally infamous — but whose methods and evidence would later attract serious scepticism.
And that's only the beginning. We explore the terrifying reports surrounding Reverend Lionel Foyster and his family, including objects flying through the air, messages appearing on walls and an apparent attempt to exorcise the house. But when a scandal involving the Reverend's wife comes to light, the credibility of the haunting is thrown into question.
Then comes the fire that destroyed Borley Rectory in 1939. Was it an accident, insurance fraud, or something more sinister? And what did Harry Price discover when he returned to investigate the ruins?
We also look at the famous legend of the ghostly nun, the claims surrounding a woman's skeleton found beneath the burned-out house, and the researchers who questioned whether the stories of Borley's supernatural past could be trusted at all.
Even though the rectory is long gone, reports of strange activity at the site continue. So was Borley Rectory genuinely haunted, or did folklore, suggestion and deliberate deception help create Britain's most famous haunted house?
Join Killers, Cults & Queens for the second part of this spooky deep dive into Borley Rectory, paranormal investigations, ghost stories and one of England's most controversial hauntings.
