What did Jung really mean when he first introduced âExtraversionâ and âIntroversionâ?
Spoiler: it wasnât âoutgoing vs shy.â It was about where your energy flows âĄď¸ outward into the world đ, or inward into reflection đŞ.
But somewhere along the way, these ideas became sticky labels we slap on ourselves:
đ âIâm just an introvert, so I canâtâŚâ
đ âIâm an extrovert, so donât expect me toâŚâ
Hereâs the problem: those labels become handcuffs. Instead of self-awareness, they turn into self-limitations.
In this episode of Automatic Mouth đ, I unpack Jungâs original idea, strip it back to something simple and usable, and share my own perspective: weâre not here to box ourselves inâweâre here to expand. Knowing your patterns is just the starting point. Growth happens when you explore the other side.
đ§ In this conversation:
⢠Jungâs true meaning of extraversion & introversion (beyond pop stereotypes)
⢠Why labels are useful only when they expand, not restrict
⢠How NLP & psychology agree: awareness = choice = possibilities
⢠A simple exercise to stretch beyond your comfort zone
So next time someone tells you âyouâre such an introvertâ or âyouâre such an extrovert,â smile and remember đ youâre more than the label. Youâre the whole terrain.
