In this episode, Bruce introduces Kara to his friend, Kalyce Carter, a disability justice- and accessiblity advocate and artist. They were awesome to chat with on all things, from the work of accessibility, the arts, late diagnosis and the importance of frameworks for understanding, Black autistic representation, advice for white (autistic) allies, and so much more. Two hours flew by, and we could easily have continued... Another time, we hope!

Guest Bio: Kalyce Carter (they/them) is a Tkaronto-based multidisciplinary artist, facilitator, and speaker whose work is rooted in disability justice, race, grief, liberation, and collective care. Kalyce weaves lived experience with precise structural and cultural critique to unpack the institutional, social, and the subsequent material conditions that sculpt our lives. Kalyce brings a powerful blend of lived experience, an MA in Critical Disability Studies, community-based knowledge, and a deep sincerity to everything they do.

____________________________

Autistic Tidbits & Tangents is a biweekly podcast, co-hosted by Kara Dymond, Bruce Petherick, & Maja Toudal, centered around topics relevant to autism and the lives of autistic people. We are autistic professionals with a passion for broadening and advancing accessibility for autistic people and understanding of autism and neurodiversity. We approach our work with the combination of our personal and professional experiences.

Each person’s viewpoints on this podcast reflect their backgrounds and temporal perspectives at the time of recording, and do not necessarily reflect the views of everyone else. We believe that personal growth comes from listening and reacting to multiple perspectives, and that conversations can be catalysts for change, connection, and greater understanding. Thanks for being part of our community!
