Data centres are being planned at a scale the construction industry has never seen before. But between the ambition and the finished facilities sits one important question:
Can the construction industry actually deliver all of them?
In this episode, Ross sat down with Garry Connolly, Founder of Digital Infrastructure Ireland, to discuss Ireland’s role in the international data centre market and the wider challenges facing digital infrastructure across Europe.
Ireland presents a particularly interesting paradox.
Irish contractors, specialists and consultants have developed some of the strongest data centre experience in Europe. The top Irish contractors, with data centre experience, now generate between 40% and 80% of their revenue outside Ireland.
They have the expertise. They have the reputation. They have the international demand.
Yet Ireland itself is struggling to deliver the housing, transport, energy and digital infrastructure it needs.
What you'll learn from today's episode of Inventing Construction:
- Why there is no digital economy - How we can scale data centre delivery - The steps needed to modernise Ireland's infrastructure - Why we shouldn't have called it the 'Cloud' - Explaining the “why” of digital infrastructure
