Shaneel is a queer rights activist known for spearheading the movement to ban conversion therapy in New Zealand. Lal won Young New Zealander of the Year in 2023 and made history by becoming the first transgender person to win an award at the New Zealander of the Year Awards since its inception in 2010.
I had the honour of sitting down with Shaneel over a bowl of Chicken Bun Cha. We dove into some steamy excerpts from Shaneel's memoir, including their first romantic experience. They shared their experience with conversion therapy and we explored pivotal moments in their life journey, including when Lal first realised their attraction to boys, the critical importance of queer representation, and why it matters so profoundly!
Big thank you to our partner at Peaches & Cream for helping us spread the sexy word!
