Bugs hunt by scent — so the simplest way to avoid bites is to change what you smell like. In this class we blend a Skeeter Beater Bug Spray from scratch: a lively outdoor spray for porches, picnics, and summer evenings, made with the essential oils insects genuinely want to avoid.
What you'll learn:
Which essential oils insects steer clear of, and why
Why a water-based spray needs a dispersant — and how Solubol blends the oils through the water instead of letting them float on top
How to build a bug spray step by step
Why there's no preservative in a spray like this, and how to keep it fresh
Who this blend isn't for, and how to keep it away from faces
The Recipe: Skeeter Beater Bug Spray Makes ~4 fl oz (120 ml) · Beginner · 10 minutes · Recipe by Karen Williams
Add the Solubol and essential oils to a 4 oz spray bottle and swirl gently. Pour in the yarrow hydrosol, cap tightly, and shake well. Label with the name and date. Notes: no preservative, so make small batches and mix a fresh bottle every 2–3 weeks. Because of the peppermint, keep this one off little ones and away from faces.
