On May 14th, 2026, Virginia Democratic Governor, Abigail Spanberger, betrayed the labor movement by vetoing legislation that would have legalized and modernized the labor rights of public workers in the state. To discuss this shameful decision, and the relationship between organized labor and electoral politics, we are joined by Chris Townsend.


Chris has been a union member for 47, currently serves as the International Union Organizing Director with the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), and has previously served as the International Representative and Political Action Director of the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America (UE), and has served as a local officer in the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW).
