When I first learned to fly a good friend said to me something we have all heard at least once. "There are old pilots and there are bold pilots, but there are no old bold pilots." In a way, he was providing a Threat Forward Briefing (TFB). He was warning that on my next flight things can go terribly wrong and that I fly with caution and be prepared for anything. To this day, when I fly from the left seat, my friend and his words are in the right always reminding me to think ahead and arrive safely. (Michael Wright)

We uncover reasons why pilots should conduct TFB's prior to each flight. Korey specifically provides excellent ideas about how to evaluate flights using handwritten journaling and camera recording. We suggest that aviators make friends with experience pilot mentors who will be able to provide unique insights about pilot skills and flight experience. We also call on pilot mentors to connect with newer pilots and give back to the community of aviators.
The PIRL Challenge: 1. Acquire a journal and evaluate your flights using the Three W's. What went well? What did not go so well? What will you do differently? 2. Record your flights using a camera and debrief your flights with a pilot mentor.
