Gunn-Britt Retter lives in the coastal Sami community of Unjárga-Nesseby, northeast Norway. She is a teacher by training at the Sámi University of Applied Sciences and holds a Master's degree in Bilingual Studies from the University of Wales. Since 2001, Gunn-Britt has worked on Arctic environmental issues, first at the Indigenous Peoples' Secretariat (IPS) of the Arctic Council in Denmark and as Head of the Arctic and Environmental Unit of the Saami Council.
