Hey friends. Welcome back to Blue Eyes Crying By The chips, I’m your host, Niko Stratis. I’m a writer living in Toronto.
I’m currently writing two books at once, one is called The Dad Rock That Made Me a Woman, forthcoming from the American Music Series at the University of Texas Press. The other is a novel called Girls of Summer, it’s a queer love store centred around the Vans Warped Tour at the Calgary Speedway in 2001.
This is my podcast about the beautiful songs that we love, and times we have cried to them in public. I use public loosely, public can mean whatever it means to the guest. Really I’m here to talk about emotions and music and the intersection of these two things with people
My guest is Shelli Nicole, culture writer, curator and editor! You can read her work in a great many places, but I highly recommend her newsletter, hishelli.net
We talk about SO many things, this was one of my all time favourite episodes to record. We get into writing, culture, emotions, hiding to cry, the stereotypes of sadness, and so much more. Also, a song by an artist I didn’t know before Shelli wanted to talk about them: Mereba.
