Some wedding weeks feel chaotic before the flowers even arrive. Others can involve a massive scope, a full team, multiple events, complicated installs—and somehow still feel surprisingly calm.

In this episode, I’m breaking down what I’ve changed over the years to make production weeks feel easier, and a lot of it has very little to do with what happens during production week itself.

Physically prepping hard goods before flowers arrive is great- but it's only the tip of the iceberg in planning for a smooth production week. I'll also share how I get information out of my head so my team can work more independently, how I think through mechanics and potential bottlenecks ahead of time, and why I mentally walk through the entire production and installation process before the week begins.

I’m also taking you behind the scenes of one of the biggest weddings we’ve ever produced: a four-event Palm Springs weekend with a team of roughly 8–10 people. I’ll show you how I intentionally designed some of those ancillary events to look highly custom and impressive while being incredibly fast for my team to produce—and why I now think about the production experience while I’m still building the proposal.

Because I’m not waiting until production week to hope the week feels manageable. I’m building manageability into the wedding months beforehand.

In this episode:

  • What I start doing as soon as final payment comes in
  • How I prep hard goods and mechanics before production begins
  • Why I want as much information out of my head as possible
  • How I identify potential production and installation bottlenecks ahead of time
  • Why delegation only works when your team has the information they need
  • How I decide what actually requires me during production week
  • How production considerations influence the designs I sell
  • The Palm Springs designs my team could knock out incredibly quickly without sacrificing visual impact
  • Why every hour on your production schedule doesn't actually belong to you
  • How I think about taking care of “Production-Week Me” while I still have the time and headspace to make decisions

Free Pre-Production Week Checklist

I also created a Pre-Production Week Checklist to go with this episode. It walks you through the things I want handled before the flowers arrive—from pulling and prepping hard goods to recipes, mechanics, team delegation, logistics and the final mental walkthrough.

The goal isn't to predict everything that could possibly happen during wedding week. It's to stop using your limited production-week attention on things you had plenty of time to solve beforehand.

If this episode helps you rethink the way you prepare for wedding week, send it to a florist friend who could use a slightly calmer production season too.
