A genuinely miserable 72 hours in our golfing lives. TP bent the entire world to get to the medal (dog walked, kids’ football sorted, chipping practised) and then shot 15 over, went in six bunkers, lost a ball under a bridge in three feet of leaves and announced on the fifth that he was going home. 😩
TG wasn’t faring much better: three points after five holes on the Sunday roll up, up at 6am, and texting TP “I want to die forever” from the tee. Then he stopped caring entirely, played the last eleven holes in one over, won the back nine and walked off with £50 in cash. Make it make sense.
Which leads us to the big question: why do we do this to ourselves every single time? Expectation ruins it, not caring fixes it, and yet we never learn. There’s also a proper lesson in here about aiming for the middle of the green, why your short game is really just an insurance policy, and the one shot on a blow-up hole that nobody ever thinks about.
