A missing helicopter, a family on edge, and a show trying to say goodbye without breaking its own world. We’re back in Dallas Season 5 Episode 13, “The Search,” and I’m watching in real time, checking in with quick recaps and unfiltered thoughts as the Ewings scramble to find Jock. The first thing I can’t let go of is how small the initial search sounds, because if a man like Jock Ewing goes down, you don’t call it after an afternoon and go home. What makes “The Search” hit, is the structure: flashbacks come fast, and each one is basically a confession. Miss Ellie remembers promises and tenderness; Bobby gets drafted to be the steady one; Ray’s grief is tangled up with belonging; and J.R. shows how much of his drive is really about pleasing his father. While the men head to South America and push past tents, bad radio connections, and real danger near the border, the women at Southfork are left with the hardest job: waiting, coping, and trying not to fall back into old patterns. We also talk about Sue Ellen fighting for space right when everyone wants to pull her closer, and why that boundary is brave. Then the search narrows to a river, a dive, and one clue that changes the temperature of the whole story. The episode closes with a Jim Davis in memoriam that’s genuinely moving, plus a big question for the series going forward: what is Dallas without Jock, and do the characters still hold? Subscribe for more Dallas recaps, share this with a fellow soap fan, and leave a review if you’re enjoying the ride.
