In the season three finale of The Inner Edge, Janet Ioli tackles the last of the seven leadership traps, the one high-substance leaders resist hardest because it sounds superficial: the image trap.
She names the uncomfortable truth underneath this trap: humans and organizations make fast judgments on first impressions, and wishing that weren't true doesn't make it so. She draws a sharp distinction between the two ways this trap catches people: over-polishing until the substance underneath goes hollow, or dismissing image altogether and letting real substance go unseen.
This episode closes the arc of the whole season. Janet connects the image trap back to all six traps that came before it, arguing that unexamined inner work eventually leaks outward, and that the real work was never substance versus image, but integrating the two.
This is the finale of an eight-part series on the seven leadership traps, based on Janet's upcoming book, Escape the Traps (releasing October 2026).
