Mary Howden is joined by Lisa Mackenzie and Lucy Hunter Blackburn from the policy analysis group Murray Blackburn Mackenzie to discuss their research report examining how the UK charity sector - particularly women's charities - has responded to legal frameworks and rulings regarding single-sex services and beneficiaries.
They highlight key findings on the pressures faced by small organisations, the significant influence of funding bodies, and the reliance on umbrella organisations that often provide one-sided advice. The discussion covers the responsibilities of regulatory bodies like the Charity Commission, OSCR, and the Fundraising Regulator, while emphasising the legal necessity for single-sex charities to either align their services with the statutory definition of woman or formally update their charitable objects.
