In Acts 8:26–40, the gospel takes a surprising turn down a desert road.
After powerful ministry in Samaria, Philip receives an unexpected command from an angel of the Lord: leave the crowds and go south toward Gaza. On that road he encounters an Ethiopian official — a high-ranking treasurer serving the queen of Ethiopia — who is reading aloud from the book of Isaiah but struggling to understand what it means.
What follows is one of the most beautiful gospel moments in Scripture.
Philip explains that the passage the man is reading — Isaiah 53 — is actually pointing to Jesus Christ, the suffering servant who was led like a lamb to the slaughter. Through this conversation, the Ethiopian official comes to understand the good news about Jesus, believes, and is immediately baptized.
Listen now and discover how Jesus is revealed in Isaiah and proclaimed on a desert road.
