On this week's Thursday Thoughts, Polly and I are talking about cultivating a beginner’s mindset, as well as the difference between fixed and growth mindsets.
In our conversation, we talk about how people often avoid trying new things because they're worried about not being good immediately, when the truth is that we all start knowing nothing — and we learn through effort and failure.
Polly talks about her experience as a teacher and how she encouraged her students to resist comparison, recognise their different strengths, and understand that skills can be developed with practice.
We also talk about the fact that talent only goes so far without persistence and self-belief, and that successful, interesting people keep learning by asking questions, embracing vulnerability, and being willing to look 'stupid'.
We hope you'll find something interesting or helpful in here.
