Edinburgh International Film Festival 2026: The Education of Jane Cumming, Goodbye Cruel World and The Peril at Pincer Point

Ahead of Edinburgh International Film Festival kicking off on 13 August, Ellie, Peter, Jamie and Anahit have got together to take a deep dive into three interesting-looking titles in the programme. First they take a trip back to 19th-century Edinburgh for The Education of Jane Cumming, a true-life story that inspired the classic 60s queer drama The Children’s Hour. It’s then off to France for Goodbye Cruel World, a beautifully shot film that begins as a story of teen bullying and depression before morphing into a dreamy coming-of-age romance. And things then take a turn in our kooky third film, The Peril at Pincer Point, which follows a feckless sound recordist searching for unique field recordings on a strange island. 

We also pick out some other picks from the festival and get a bit too animated about an unlikely inclusion in the programme: Michael Bay’s delightfully ludicrous action thriller The Rock. We’ve something for everyone, literally!
