Exhibit XV: The Roman Enigma

Before you step through those doors once more, allow me to offer a word of caution.

Not every exhibit in this museum tells us what it was.

Some simply refuse.

Waiting beneath the glass tonight is an object no larger than the palm of your hand, cast in bronze almost two thousand years ago and buried beneath the earth until chance brought it back into the light. Twelve faces. Twelve perfectly formed pentagons. Hollow within. Strange openings of differing sizes upon each face. It is an object that should have surrendered its purpose to history centuries ago.

Instead...

It guards its secret still.

Archaeologists have uncovered these curious artefacts across the lands once ruled by Rome. They have been weighed, measured and studied by some of history's greatest minds, yet no one can say with certainty why they were made. Were they instruments of science? Symbols of faith? Tools of war? Children's toys? Or has the true answer simply been forgotten by time?

Tonight, traveller, I invite you to stand before Exhibit XV and examine one of history's most enduring enigmas. Listen carefully, weigh the evidence for yourself and decide whether the Romans left behind a puzzle that can still be solved... or whether some mysteries were never meant to have an answer.
