When "X" hit theaters in March 2022, many horror fans expected little more than another throwback slasher — a bloody love letter to the grindhouse films of the 1970s. After all, the marketing promised a group of young people isolated on a rural Texas farm, an unsettling elderly couple, and plenty of gruesome kills.
Instead, audiences got something far stranger, smarter, and far more emotionally unsettling.
