I preach rest. I preach self-care. I preach boundaries. And then I turned 40. I packed the entire summer full of birthday celebrations, a work trip to Calgary, camping, beach days, splash pads, star gazing, and every possible summer memory I could manufacture for my four kids... and ran myself ragged.
My 7-year-old drew me a picture of a tired whale. She titled it "Mama Whale is so tired." She saw right through me.
This episode is my honest debrief on what happens when I don't follow my own advice, and what I'm doing about it.
In this episode:
How turning 40 coincided with one of my most overpacked, under-rested seasons
The specific kind of overwhelm that sneaks in when you're trying to make everything magical (and what it looks like for me: rage)
How perimenopause is showing up in my energy management in ways I didn't expect
The Time Magic™ Method and how I lost sight of it
The difference between rest and self-care, and why you can't have one without the other first
Sandra Dalton-Smith's 7 types of rest
Why "balance is a verb, not a destination" is more than a saying I throw around
What I'm doing this week to actually recover before the kids come back
