Sponge is an American alternative rock band formed in Detroit, Michigan, in 1992 by lead vocalist Vinnie Dombroski. Known for their gritty, driving grunge-pop, the group rose to mainstream prominence with their iconic 1994 debut album, Rotting Piñata, and its chart-topping hit singles.
