There is no doubt that people enjoy writing about their travels telling us about the places they have seen and things they have done, but why is it so important? Travel writing is important because it humanizes distant places. Unlike standard journalism, it doesn’t pretend, and it doesn’t follow the panic-driven disaster tropes of the twenty-four hour news cycle.
